Congratulations to the ECBC 1 five Man Handicap Snooker Team who won the2026 Tony Tamplin Shield after a hard fought win over Newcastle City 1winning 3-1 at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club. All players played quality snooker in front of a good number of spectators.

Dirk Hellenbroich and Aaron Hogg both lost the second frame but fought back to win 2-1 against Neil Fatania and Muhammad Shakir. Gary Johnson went down 2-0 to Ben Cooper before John Potryala steadied the Cessnock ship playing quality snooker to beat a brave Darren Burn to complete the major premiership win for the Cessnock lads.

Commiserations to minor premiers , Nelson Bay Marlins who bowed out in the Preliminary Final and Newcastle City 1 who fought their way into the Grand Final from 3rd place . Congratulations to a resilient ECBC 1 who rose from the bottom of the ladder early in the season to win 10 of their last 11 matches and take out the Major Premiership .

Saroj Gautam (Newcastle City 1 ) had the highest break of 127 during the season (negative handicap player) and Thomas Adnum (Newcastle City 2)scored 47 (positive handicap player.)

Memorial 

A Farewell to Steve Eaton

It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news of the passing of our dear friend and member, Steve Eaton, who passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, 5th May, with his daughter Sinéad and family by his side.

Steve was a true gentleman of the game, a unique and wonderful character who brought his own quiet warmth to everything he did. He was much loved by our club community, and his presence will leave a space that simply cannot be filled.

Many of you will know that after the passing of his father, Steve made the bold and beautiful decision to sell his house, invest in a Winnebago, and set out to explore. He travelled parts of NSW and ventured as far south as Phillip Island in Victoria — quietly courageous, independent, and always a little different from the rest of us in the best possible way. It was a chapter that said everything about who Steve was.

Steve faced a difficult battle with lung cancer over the past twelve weeks, cared for lovingly by Sinéad throughout. It is a comfort to know he was surrounded by family and at peace.

For those who have tried to find a photo of Steve in a team shirt you will know exactly what we mean when we say he was a man of very particular tastes. Those who knew him will smile at the mention of his very particular dislike of polyester and his ever-present coconut water. Those little details are the things that made Steve, Steve.

A memorial will be held here in NSW, and details will be shared as soon as we have them. We hope as many of you as possible will join us to give Steve the send-off he deserves.

Rest easy, Steve. 🎱

2025- 26 John Lund Minor and Major Premiers – Kahibah Cannons

Congratulations to the Kahibah Cannons five Man Handicap Snooker Team who won the 2025-26 Summer John Lund Shield after a close win over Nelson Bay Dolphins winning 3-2 at Belmont 16ft. Terrence Koo beat Mark Limana on pink in the third and last frame of the match. 

Commiserations to Nelson Bay Dolphins who had a great season. 

Chris Mungoven (ECBC 2) had the highest break of 62 during the season (negative handicap player) and Neil Audet (Belmont 16ft ) scored 38 (positive handicap player.)

Newcastle Snooker Website

Over the last 12 months the website theme that Newcastle Snooker used has become more problematic on mobile devices. As such the Committee has requested I investigate a better solution. Over the next couple of weeks I will be trialling different website themes in an attempted to find the best mobile friendly option. I will attempt to keep all data accessible for player during this transition, however the look and responsiveness may be affected whilst differing options are explored.
