Cessnock Comets win Premier League Final

Wangi Workers club graciously hosted the final of the NDBSA Premier League final last night. The Minor Premier winning Cessnock Comets met the Toronto Workers Winners Are Grinners’ in an extended best of 5 tussle. It was great to see the room full of supporters and spectators to create some atmosphere for the final.
Nick Waymouth and Steve Strang had a close first frame with Nick edging out Steve on the colours. The run of the table was not with Steve after frame one and Nick quickly took control of the next 2 games to win 3 – 0.
Steve Boyce and Paul Matherson set out slowly and Paul showed good resolve in keeping an always dangerous Steve away from potting opportunities throughout the match. It was not to be however with Steve steadily gaining form along with some fortuitous pots to win 3 – 0.
Chris Mungoven and Steve Bryant commenced with Steve attacking and Chris not finding form early and resorting to snookers. By mid-frame, Chris had found some form and crept away in points. Frame 2 played a bout of break for break, with Chris nabbing the win on the colours. Frame 3 was back and forth until Steve started seeing them and knocked in a very tidy 58. At this point the other matches had been completed and the score would stand as a 2 – 1 result.
The ever-strong Cessnock Comets returning to the winner’s circle once again.
Thanks again to Wangi for the use of the room. Thanks also to the referees that officiated.

The Summer Premier League will commence on August 15.
