Local Snooker Stalwart Frank Nash passes away

It is with great sadness that the NDSBA farewells local snooker player Frank Nash.

Frank passed away on Thursday 1st December 2016 at the age of 77 years. He was an avid and enthusiastic snooker player for Wangi Workers Club in social and N.D.B. & S.A. Inc. competition for more than 20 years since moving to Wangi from Sydney.

He was a Committee member of the N.D.B. & S.A. Inc. for quite a few years and was devoted to snooker in Newcastle.

He was a past President of Wangi Workers Club Snooker Club and Vice President at the time of his passing and also a deserved Life Member of Wangi Workers Club Snooker Club which he stated was his greatest honour.

He served as President and Committee person on the Wangi Workers Club Board of Directors for many years.

Frank will be sadly missed by his partner Fay, his family and all of his snooker friends.

Belmont 16′ Sailing Club No.2 2016 Rex Smith Over-50s Champions

Congratulations to Jay Firth and his Belmont 16′ Sailing Club No.2 team for taking out the 2016 Season in the Over-50s, Rex Smith Shield. Wangi Worker’s Club No.2 put up hard fight and the Grand Final had to go to a deciding match but the Belmont team prevailed. Well done to Jay and the team.

Wangi Worker’s No.2 to join Belmont 16′ Sailing Club No.2 in Over-50s Grand Final

Wangi Worker’s No.2 have come from 4th position to enter the Rex Smith Over-50s Grand Final where they will play Belmont 16′ Sailing Club. The Grand Final will be held at the Toronto Worker’s Club 1pm on Thursday the 17th of November. Good luck to both teams and as always, spectators most welcome.

Belmont 16′ Sailing No.2 def Cessnock Ex-Services in the major Semi to progress to the Rex Smith Over-50’s Grand Final and in the minor Semi Wangi Worker’s Club No.2 def the Tennis Club. This week 10/11/16 Cessnock Ex-Services will play Wangi Worker’s No.2 at Belmont 16′ Sailing Club to see who will join Belmont 16′ Sailing Club No.2 in the Grand Final.

Rob claims second Newcastle Open title

Robert Elsley from Mayfield has claimed his second Newcastle Open Snooker title defeating Port Macquarie star Michael Cosh. Rob got better throughout the two day competition culminating in a 4-0 frame defeat in the final of Michael who earlier obtained the tournament’s highest break with a 98 clearance. Praise from both players and spectators was given to a well run tournament by ‘Tournament Director’ Luke Green.
