Elwyn Jones Billiards Format

Format for the Elwyn Jones Shield

The Elwyn Jones Billiards Shield  is a billiards race to 200 points PLUS a player’s handicap.

• Players add their handicap minus 200 on the scoreboard then race to 0.
• Each player receives a point for each GAME win.
• The team with the most wins receives a bonus point .(2 or 3 game wins )
• If all players in the team are wearing their club snooker shirt , the team is awarded an additional bonus point. 
• A team can win a maximum of 5 points composed of 3 game wins , 1 match point and 1 shirt bonus point.
• At a two table venue , the lowest two (2) handicappers are the first two games of the night as they are required to score more points.

Start Times and Cue Ball Choice

• All Elwyn Jones billiards matches will start at 6pm at all venues unless an alteration is agreed by both captains.
• Choice of game commencement and choice of cue ball will be determined by either ‘stringing’ or a coin toss.

Etiquette

• All players must follow the International Snooker and Billiards Etiquette Rules. 
• A player seriously contravening etiquette rules may lose the game. Eg unwarranted physical contact with opponent or table , poor behaviour after being warned. 
• No cigarette or vape breaks during a best of 3 frames game

Handicaps

• If a player WINS their game their handicap REDUCES by 5 points to a maximum of 0.
• If a player LOSES their game their handicap will INCREASE  by 5 points 
• Handicaps will be adjusted after the match and posted on the website .
• The NDBSA designated Handicapper reserves the right to further adjust any player’s handicap.
• There is NO MINIMUM HANDICAand the highest handicap is 0.
• The NDBSA appointed handicapper can alter a player’s handicap at any time during their first competition year. 

Player Qualification for Finals

• player must play for their team on a minimum of three nights prior to the freeze to qualify for finals
• Finals
• Top 3 of the 5 Elwyn Jones Billiards teams play in the finals.
• Teams 2 and 3 on the final points scoreboard play in a Preliminary Final while the 1stplaced team moves straight to the Grand Final.
• The Preliminary Final is played at the home venue of team 2. The Grand Final is played at a NEUTRAL venue.
• The NDBSA will endeavour to supply referees and neutral markers to finals , otherwise the home team will supply markers with assistance of the away team when required.
• If teams are tied on points , the team with the superior W/L record progresses
• If the W/L records are equal then the team winning the last match between the two tied teams progresses. 

Prize Monies

• To be determined by the NDBSA Committee
• Prize Monies will be determined by the number of players playing in each of the three competitions
