NSW State Billiards Minors at CC Leagues & $0 entry!

The 2018 Minor Billiards will be played at Central Coast Leagues club on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 February.

This year you are playing for the honour and glory of a state title rather than for prize money and consequently entry cost is $0. You will still be required to join the State Association to play in a state title event.

We encourage all Billiards players, those of whom are eligable to play the State Minors and hope to get a big turn out on the beautiful Central Coast…if you lose you can still go for a swim!

The format is round robin so you are guaranteed at least 3 and possibly 4 matches regardless of the results. It’s a fun day of competition with other ladies and gentlemen of billiards. As with all Billiards events it is a welcoming crowd who enjoy each others company.

Attached is the BSANSW Calendar for 2018, simply click the event details for the entry form.

While you are looking at the Calendar you will notice 2 brand new State titles in the latter half of the year. These are short format frames of 150 up and we will be offering both a Majors and Minors event. If you have previously won any State Billiards title you will be ineligible to enter a Minor event, but can of course contest the Major billiards in either or both formats.

Dates for Lightning Billiards events at Hornsby are now also posted to the BSANSW calendar.

For Billiards aficionados please also note the dates for the Ron Shepherd Billiards in the Illawarra on the 19th and 29th of May 2018. This is an open non-ranking handicapped event run by Sandy Batellic and has proven to be very popular over the years. Many of the Sydney based players make a road trip of this event annually and rave about it.

Finally we are pleased to announce that we have confirmed dates and venue for the Sydney Open Billiards, the World Ranking premier event on the NSW Calendar.

This year the Club Marconi Sydney Open Billiards will be played at, Club Marconi on Friday Saturday and Sunday 6th 7th and 8th April. The field will include World Number 1 Peter Gilchrist and a number of other overseas superstars. This event is open to players from anywhere in the world regardless of affiliations and is a unique opportunity to see and play against the best in the sport right in your own backyard.

2018 Mingara Double Trouble Results

Mingara’s 15th annual “Double Trouble” snooker tournament has come to a close after two big days of competition. This year’s event attracted a field of 36 entries (72 players) who came from areas including Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Lithgow, Bathurst, Young as well as the Central Coast. Spectators were treated to some great snooker throughout the weekend, with the top 16 teams from Saturday’s round robin stage progressing to Sunday’s knockout and culminating in a very entertaining Final.

This year’s finalists were popular local Mark Sainsbury, teamed-up with visitor Gary Collins from Forster, who opposed Mingara’s very own “dynamic duo” of Mick Tolhurst and Lochie James. It was a very hard-fought and entertaining tussle which came down to the deciding frame and both teams deserve hearty congratulations. But in the end there can be only one winner – and it was the Sainsbury/Collins combination which gained the upper hand to emerge victorious and claim the title of 2018 Champions.

Newcastle’s doubles teams Nilesh Fatania & John Duchatel, Peter Hough & John Francis and last years winners Ian Olsen & Gary Robert all made notable performances making it to the tournaments quarter finals.

Mingara hosts this popular event on behalf of the Greater Western SnookerCircuit (GWSC) and many thanks must go to all players and spectators who supported this year’s tournament and made it such a success. Special acknowledgement and thanks must also go to our major event sponsor “S&J Landscaping” and Mingara Recreation Club whose support and assistance made it possible.

Please support the 2017 ‘Cueing for Kids’ Tournament

SBCC’s annual charity fundraising snooker tournament, known as Cueing for Kids, will be held at Club Toukley RSL on 1st & 2nd July.  Please refer to flyer for details.
We have had a good response from Newcastle players to two handicap snooker events conducted at Mingara this year, and it would be great to see this support continue for this worthy cause.  Billiard tables at Club Toukley have been upgraded in connection with the recent State Minor Snooker Championship held there and are now providing significantly improved playing conditions. All players and supporters will be warmly welcomed.
